First Lady Honors TSP-Sacramento at White House (April 2011)

April 11, 2011 was an proud day for TSP-Sacramento. After flying to Washington D.C., Former TSP Clinical Director Carolyn Fink and Communications Consultant Becci Angell were honored by First Lady Michelle Obama in a special ceremony as part of her Joining Forces Community Challenge, a call to action to support military families.   Selected from among hundreds of nominees, TSP-Sacramento, was chosen for its Family Ties program, which offers free mental health treatment in group settings to military family members. Family Ties also provides a support network for military kin who need help finding financial, educational and career resources. Being one of the organizations honored at the White House was truly validating.

“Attending the Joining Forces event was not just an honor; it was also a great opportunity to see how other charitable organizations are working to support military families,” said Carolyn Fink. “The time we spent in Washington allowed us to network and develop resources to better serve military families in the Sacramento region.”  TSP-Sacramento currently fields about 45 volunteer therapists in eight counties and provided nearly 1,000 hours of free therapy in 2011 to military members and their families.
